Plans For The Final Two Weeks:

As promised students, this post will act as an "online prompt" to remind you of all the good work you've done and all the solid learning that went on during this past semester in Intro To Media Arts.

Below are the list of individual and group project-based assignments (as well as BIG concepts) that we covered in class. Use this information to help you decide what your FINAL CULMINATION PROJECT will be for this course. And of course, go back in time by reading older posts on this blog to help stir up the memories and to come up with something totally cool!

Have at it...and don't come to school "empty-headed"!!

Projects & Concepts:
Paper Airplanes
SMS Shorthand Poetry on Cellphones
Vanity License Plates: The First Ever Text Messages
The "I Wish For" Postcards
The Bic Pen (doodles, etc)
Newspaper Jargon (Ball of Confusion...failed project!)
Logo Initials
The Maul
Skype (Hoban Telecommutes!)
Media Artist Research Paper (Comic Life)
Over-The-Shoulder Graphics
The Media Art of Kevin Van Aelst

  1. im not 100% sure yet. i am still deciding between over the shoulder and the logo project

  2. I am thinking about doing a bic pen project. I could make something out of bic pens or draw a clever doodle relating to a bic pen. If that fails, I would like to make another paper airplane.

  3. Thanks Eddie and Matt! When [both of] you say: over-the-shoulder OR logo OR bic pen OR paper airplane as possible final projects, what exactly are your thoughts related to one or all of these possibilities?

For instance, when Eddie says he may do an over-the-shoulder project, I say: "we've already done that!" I need to read more details in your comments to understand how you will "further along" what we've already done. Maybe he's going to design an over the shoulder graphic that matches his mood and walk around campus with them (sorry you can't do that one Papajohn...my idea!!) Or Matt says he wants to do a clever doodle relating to bic pens. How? What will it be? I'd like to know more about your thinking before we get back to school next week.

And that goes for all you other Media Arts lurkers out there. Start thinking and jot your thoughts down as comments on this blog. Keep the conversation constructive and active!!

Have at it...and don't be strangers!!

  4. I think we should do that balloon project again because well it broke and we never got to do it. but instead of making it out of all newspaper we can draw or make other stuff to represent what we did in Media Arts. Like we could our postcards on is and make paper airplanes to put on it. stuff like that...

  5. i'm thinkin i would like to do something with the vanity plates. maybe come up with a few and then design the actual one. or like make them up on paper and tape over other license plates in the parking lots. i personally think that would be pretty funny. like say we knew whose car it was we could make like a joke about em and put it on there. just a suggestion probably not allowed but i'd like to incorporate the license plate somehow

  6. Thanks for adding to the post, Heston and Devan!

Heston: we'll have papier mache balls ready and waiting for any student who wants to design anything related to class. HOWEVER...it has to be made of newspaper (because that's how we do papier mache) so you may want to stick with some type of newspaper themed project. That's not excluding any other "design elements", it's just a base from which to work.

Devan: Great idea! I like your thinking, but I don't believe we can get away with "swapping" folks' real license plates. Perhaps a safer, less prankish, route can be taken. In prep for this major undertaking, you should view this video (several times) as to how to make license plates in Photoshop. Get viewin'!

  7. Ok so for my bic pen sculpture,I was thinking of something simple like making a cube out pens or a pyramid.Maybey even combine both into a house type shape.I also thought about making a sculpture bic pen out of bic pens. All I know is that I am going to need alot of super glue. As for the doodle I am not sure what to do.The doodle is my backup project if the sculpture fails.
